ODD INDUSTRY
Built around skateboarding.
Designed beyond the obvious.
ODD INDUSTRY is a skateboarding brand built around the belief that there is still a great deal of unexplored territory in skate product design.
Skateboarding has spent decades developing a visual and physical language of its own. A handful of components — a deck, two trucks, four wheels, eight bearings and some hardware — have become objects recognised far beyond skateboarding itself.
Their proportions, graphics, materials and construction have been refined over generations, while the culture around them has influenced everything from fashion and photography to architecture, art and industrial design.
What interests us is what can happen next.
ODD INDUSTRY works with the familiar language of skateboarding and uses it as a foundation for new products. Sometimes that means reconsidering something that already exists within skating: changing the way it works, the way it is manufactured or the way somebody interacts with it.
At other times, it means taking an element of skateboarding completely outside its expected context and allowing it to become something else.
54MM
SKATE
FIDGET
Our 54MM Skate Fidget is one example. The dimensions, markings, bearings and overall form deliberately reference a traditional skate wheel, but its purpose is entirely different.
It isn't a novelty made to look vaguely like something from skateboarding. The details are important precisely because the reference is important. Someone who has spent years around skateboards should recognise those details immediately.
That thinking extends across everything ODD makes.
DESIGN TERRITORY
Beyond the skate shop wall.
We don't see a reason why the boundaries of a skate company should be determined by the categories traditionally found on the wall of a skate shop.
Skateboarding already exists far beyond those boundaries. It lives in people's homes, what they wear, the objects they collect, the spaces they occupy and the things they choose to surround themselves with.
That gives ODD a deliberately broad design territory.
We develop products for skateboarding itself, but also products that come from skateboarding: hardware, accessories, tools, objects, storage, display, clothing, art, collectibles and everyday products.
They don't all need to perform the same function or even belong to the same category. What connects them is the culture they come from and the level of consideration that goes into making them.
HOW WE WORK
Design.
Prototype.
Manufacture.
ODD operates as both a brand and a product development company.
Design, prototyping and manufacturing are closely connected rather than treated as separate stages handed from one company to another.
We use digital design, additive manufacturing, AI-assisted development, conventional manufacturing and specialist production processes according to what makes sense for the product.
The manufacturing process serves the product, rather than the other way around.
A good idea shouldn't require an order for ten thousand units before it can exist. Equally, a product shouldn't remain small-batch simply because that is how it began.
We can develop an idea, manufacture an initial production run, put it into the market and learn from how people actually use it.
Products that benefit from further development can change. Products that justify greater scale can move into larger manufacturing processes. Others may make more sense as limited runs where the method of production is part of the object itself.
The catalogue is allowed to evolve.
This is also why ODD releases products through DROPS and SERIES rather than working towards an artificially large seasonal catalogue.
A product is released because we believe there is something interesting about it, not because an empty space exists in a range plan.
Some products remain. Some develop into families of related objects. Others exist for a particular edition, material, colour or collaboration.
THE WIDER INDUSTRY
Design.
Manufacture.
Distribution.
ODD INDUSTRY also works beyond its own product range through manufacturing, collaboration and distribution.
There are independent brands and designers producing exceptional skate products all over the world, often with a strong following in one market and very little presence in another.
Distribution gives us an opportunity to work with those companies, introduce their products to specialist retailers and build relationships that extend beyond simply buying and selling stock.
For us, this belongs naturally alongside product development.
Understanding what retailers sell, what skateboarders use and where genuine gaps exist informs better design.
Developing our own products gives us a different perspective when representing somebody else's. Manufacturing creates opportunities for collaboration. Distribution gives good products somewhere to go.
Rather than treating design, manufacturing, retail and distribution as unrelated parts of the business, ODD brings them together.
It means we can take an idea from a sketch or prototype through production, launch it directly, place it with specialist skate retailers and ultimately take it into markets around the world.
And it means we can do the same alongside other brands whose products and approach we respect.
ODD INDUSTRY
That is the industry in ODD INDUSTRY.
Not simply another name on a skateboard, but a company interested in the products, ideas and people that continue to move skateboarding forward — and in finding out what else can be built around it.
